Hey guys just checking
ReplyDeleteJody died
ReplyDeleteChapter 7 Janie grown to hate the life she is living now and just listen to Wat Jody says cause even if she wanted to run she wont know where to go at
ReplyDeleteWhen Janie lets her hair down at the end of Chapter 8 what does it symbolize?
ReplyDeleteTo me it symbolizes that for a moment she felt freedom
ReplyDeleteHey guys this is Merlo.. in chapter 7 in the text i ran into something that i didn't know what it meant but here is the quote "plenty of life beneath the surface but it was kept beaten down by the wheels". So what do you think this means?
ReplyDeleteUmmmm Miss I haven't been in your class for awhile I wasn't in class Tuesday to get the copy of chapters 7 & 8. QUE HAGO!?!?!(What do I do)
ReplyDeleteI don't wanna fail
In Chapter 7 like Fantastic Tima said, "Janie hated her life, and just listened to what Jody had to say" simply expresses how she has decided to separate her emotions, and she also finds it irrelevant to argue with Jody.
ReplyDeleteThe simple answer to Jonathan's question, "Janie letting her hair down symbolize?" It symbolizes Freedom like Elizabeth said, and to me it symbolizes the continuation of her long teenager dream and more adventures. She's finally get her bee, and the 'Love' she has so long been seeking.
I found that Jody can be characterized as hypocritical because he tells Janie not to interact with the trashy town people, but yet he does it.

Jay Lee: Darkness continues to ironically provide enlightenment into Janie's life, as her shadow reminds her of her beauty and what she's really worth. Jodie's insecurity of growing old finally was placed upon him and he unleashes his wrath upon Janie as so she does the same to him, finally expressing her feelings. "Shadows over the town" foreshadows Jodie's death yet Janie didn't want it to happen yet she doesn't regret it as she notice she's not a young girl but a mature woman as she brushes her hair, the main symbolism of her strength and beauty.
ReplyDeleteMikeBez-Chapter 7&8 are simply basing how Janie's life is horrid because of jodies insecurity towards woman an her feelings as if she is nothing more than just his wife but inactuality she has more to offer. While she is sitting down brushing her hair she realizes she is a mature woman not a child or kid anymore but her beauty symbolize her strength as a person and wife and shouldnt be judged by her looks but be judged as anyone else.
ReplyDeleteFrom Yuridiana: Chapter 7
ReplyDeletei believe that it means like there's alot of good things out there and she knows that but she's blind and she dont want to realize all the freedom and good things she can experience...
I believe letting her down is a symbol for freedom from being controlled by Jody, because she feels or knows that she is not a child anymore. And will not let herself be treated like Jody does, and she finally realized that beauty is within and she shouldn't be judged my looks.
ReplyDeleted.will-Chapters 7 & 8 symbolizes how Janie's life really is with her husband Jody. Eventhough,Jody dies in these chapters,Janie is disappointed and somewhat happy, because she finally feels free in a way as a woman. (Ms.Lightfoot something is wrong with my account and I promise this is the one and only d.will)
ReplyDeleteMory Kaba- Chapter 7&8 symbolizes the reality of Janie's life with Jody, however when Jody dies she has a feeling of sadness and joy due to the fact that she receives a feeling of freedom. Although, she also sees her strength as a women and her beauty she sees much more to her life besides just being a wife.
ReplyDeleteChapther 7&8 basically represents the falling apart of Janie and jodys marriage. Due to his aging Jody trys to bring Janie down by making mean remarks towards her appearance. Janie knowing she is beautiful however, ignores him for his ignorance and waits as he dies off. Janie letting her hair down symbolizes freedom fom her imprisonment of her emotions and well being as a whole. She than trys to hide how happy she is by tying her hair back up as if she was saddened by her husbands death, which confirms the sybolish of freedom.
ReplyDeletewhats up miss its Monterreo !In chapter 7 does Jody mention stuff abut her physical appearance,so she doesn't worry about his. because his ageing!
ReplyDeleteAt the end of Chapter 8, Jody "let down her plentiful hair". That can symbolize how without Jody she is now free, but right after she "tied it back up again". What does her tying her hair back up symbolize?
ReplyDeleteI think that Jody's death was significant in that it let Janie finally move on from this part of her life. I've noticed that in this book, the passage of time isn't really emphasized. This makes things kind of confusing when I'm reading it. Anybody else notice the same thing?
ReplyDeleteIn Chapters 7&8 symbolizes Janie's hopeless in her relationship with Jody on achieving her dreams. This symbolism was made clear when Jody's and Janie's marriage had come to an end in Jody's death. They both realize that they haven't fulfilled their dreams, but Janie is able to survive in the end by beginning to head in in the path of her dreams.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that Janie and Jody have a love/hate Ike/Tina relationship so why did she feel so much pity when he died if he used to beat her
ReplyDeleteWhat did they mean by "plug in the tobacco" in Chapter 7 ?

ReplyDeleteI find that death is symbolized by "the square-toed one" due to in the end Janie says that it "cut off his breath", 'his' being Jody.
ReplyDelete-Daysi
at the beginning of chapter 7 in the text "The years took all the fight out of janie's face", can symbolize that those 20 years when she was with jody were tough and might have changed her
ReplyDeletei agree with tima
ReplyDeletejody thinks that janie wont know where to go like she is in a cage and she cant figure anything out, but i believe she is going to find her own path and move on by herself
hey guys what do everyone think is going to happen to her with her life later on??
ReplyDeleteFrom Eric Martinez: From what I read it seems as though they were at the stage of their relationship when they start growing apart because of how Jody treats her
ReplyDeleteIn Chapter 7 & 8, the audience can clearly see that there's no point of Janie waiting for 20 years into their marriage when Jody is on his deathbed to tell him he was a prick to her. Then, she's automatically regretful that she literally argues with him to death. When she had to starch & iron her face, it symbolized her putting a mask on, particularly as Jody's wife.
ReplyDeletei wasnt able to come to your 5th period on tuesday(the last day) and before i left home i asked if anything was due? you just not to worry about it
ReplyDeletecan i make it up or do any work?
or not worry about it
Letting her hair down was a sign that she was a free woman not controled by anyone anymore. She has the freedom to do what she wants. In a way it signifies that she is becoming and independant woman and dependent on a husband as she was in the begining of the story.
ReplyDeleteI agree with APGeorge, letting her hair down signifies that she was a free woman, but after she lets her hair down she pulled it back maybe just because it signifies respect or maybe because she's just use to it, a routine that has been carried for 20 years.
ReplyDelete"The young girl was gone, but a handsome woman had taken her place" signifies to me that she has grown as a little girl and this whole situation has made her grown as a woman.
ReplyDeleteIn Chapter 7, Janie tends to do everything jody tells her without thinking about what's best for her and she's not happy at all. Janie also thinks about running away, but she doesn't have any where else to go, so she has to stay and please jody
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the ending of chapter 8, it made me believe the towns people wanted to see Janie all sad and in a emotional wreck."Then she starched and ironed her face..." Does this mean the townspeople want to her see her flat on her back and get pounded by Jody(Joe) like they are so accustomed to?

-- In the text, “Janie saw her life like a great tree in leaf with the things suffered, things enjoyed, things done and undone. Dawn and doom was in the branches.” Symbolized the rough times and the uprising of her life. This symbolism was made clear when Hurston starts the story from the present of Janie’s life -- One theme that Hurston attempts to convey is a women should not stand around to be abused of . This is clear when Jodie is finally dying in his deathbed and Janie cannot stand to take the horrible abuse that caused her to take stand and give up on what she and Jodie were.
-- I found that Jodie can be characterized as I man of two faces he plays such a respectful, well behaved, wealthy man that treated Janie like his queen, but later he shows his true side of violent, rage, and such disrespect to Janie.

ReplyDeleteI believe Janie goes from being a clueless girl about love and how to love, due to not having love or guidance from her parents b/c she never knew them. I also think Janie learns over time by going through things w/men and she definitely learns what the wrong kind of love is.
And I also agree w/You guys I definitely think Janie's letting of her hair down symbolizes that she's free, she doesnt have to worry about someone who's supposed to "love" her being jealous of her nice features, she can now wear her hair how she wants, how its supposed to be worn. NOT wrapped up w/a rag b/c Joe and his jealously issues.
Janie putting her hair down after Jody died symbolizes freedom, she probably loved Jody but over time what she felt for him wasn't as strong as she thought. what i really don't understand is how come she tied her hair back after letting her hair loose.in the story says that she had to put a face people wanted to see but why??
