Structure!!

On your Hamlet essays, many of you are lacking definite structure. Here's a rough format to follow:

  • INTRODUCTION -- Thematic statement
  • BODY (2-3 paragraphs)
    • Topic sentence
    • Quote
    • Commentary
    • transition word
    • Quote
    • Commentary
    • transition sentence
  • CONCLUSION
    • What did you prove? End with a universal statement.

Period 4 Non-Readers!

Someone asked me to post your discussion questions online, so here goes:

How does the beginning of this relationship differ from the other two? What is the significance of this difference? Has there been a shift in Janie's characterization since meeting Tea Cake? Why or why not?

Your response should be one page in length. It is due Monday.

Quiz Grade Replacement

I know that a lot of you were concerned about your grades on quizzes. The following assignments will, if done correctly and  turned in on time, replace quiz grades that you are unhappy about. The analysis should be no longer than one page and should include textual evidence. Good Luck!

These replacement assignments are due on Monday, December 5th during your class period. The changed grade will not be reflected on Friday's Progress Report.

Chapter 6 quiz  ---
Analyze Hurston's allusions to the pear tree symbol in this chapter. How do these references show the changes that have occurred in Janie's marriage?

Chapter 7-8 quiz ---
Analyze the repeated use of Jody's favorite expression, "I God." Why is this phrase significant? What clues does it give us about Jody's character.

Chapter 7-8 Thanksgiving Discussion

In the comments section, please record questions or comments that you have regarding the text. Please be sure to come up with ORIGINAL thoughts. The first person to post will dictate the trajectory of the conversation. If they ask a question, answer it!

For those of you who need a bit of extra guidance, try one of the following formulas:
-- In the text, _______________ symbolized ______________. This symbolism was made clear when_______________.
-- One theme that Hurston attempts to convey is ______________. This is clear when ______________.
-- I found that _________________ can be characterized as _________________ because __________________.

If you have questions about the reading or the assignment, email me at MissLightfootSHS@gmail.com. This assignment is due Sunday, November 27th at 11:59 PM.

Fail the Chapter 2 Quiz? Replacement Assignment here!

DUE FRIDAY!!

In a 1-2 paragraph analysis, use textual evidence from everything we've read thus far to answer the following question: How does Hurston present Janie's view of love?

Everyone say thanks to Gloria Johnson for making this suggestion!
